The shepherds back then and now guide their flocks through rocky slopes that had sprigs of green grass. They were on the move the whole time. A sprig here and a sprig there that grew out of clusters of rocks. That was considered the area of green pastures. When he says, He makes me lie down in green pastures. That to me says, He makes sure that there is not only enough, but there is a bounty. We are not just sheep that go from sprig to sprig of grass, but there is so much available that we can rest in that. God is a God of provision and abundance. If we chose, we can live abundant lives with our cups filled to overflowing. If we follow what Paul says about being transformed by the renewing of our minds we will have access to the life and light of Christ. Being transformed by the renewing of our minds means to re-wire our thinking to line up with the promises of God. Renewing is an action word and means to be constantly re-wiring our thinking. Jesus said, In this world we will have troubles, but take heart for I have overcome the world. The enemy is like a lion seeking whom he may devour. To steal, kill and destroy. He is constantly on the prowl to destroy any possibility of us being our full potential in Christ so we must be alert to his schemes and be prepared to recite the affirmations we have in the Lord, His promises for us, His desire for us, and re-write the story to line up with those promises.
