Description
The mysterious renaissance bicycle and chain or at least a replica of it.
Da Vinci has been credited as creator of this design at his chateau in Amboise, France. I took this photo of this very old replica of his so-called creation. Did he really draw up the first bicycle design 400 years before the first bicycle? I have to say that I was very impressed to see this wooden bike. It was beautiful. Even the chain was made of wood. I found myself wanting it to be his design. I had no idea that drawings of a bicycle and chain were sketched out 400 years ago let alone he being the original creator of such a device, yet here it stood amongst other replicas of his creations not too far from where he was laid to rest (at the Amboise castle). Leonardo Da Vinci's French home and gardens was a fascinating place to visit, a wow moment in my trip. Of course, I knew the guy was an inventor and an incredible artist and I knew that he invented a lot of things, but to see the replicas in person was truly awe inspiring. As I walked through his home and gardens and discovered, as if for the first time, that he created everything from costumes to a flying machine. I was struck with amazement. He did all of this in his lifetime? To say wow is quite the understatement. There is just something about seeing them, although replicas, in person. There was a tank, a paddle boat, a draw bridge, a water wheel, and many more. All life size and in working order. You could walk on some of the replicas or sit in some of them.
There was a museum displaying some of his original artwork and the original flying machine (which looked remarkably like a hang glider) in the gardens too. I genuinely felt inspired, even strangely empowered, and left the chateau with a lifted spirit. He was one heck of a guy. I sure would have liked to have known him.
