Description
This impressionistic horse painting resembles a cosmic cloud or Nebula, but not on purpose. I was surprised to discover that 'Celestial Stallion' resembles the famous and awe inspiring Nebula called 'Horsehead Nebula' (a dark nebula in the constellation Orion). It was originally discovered over a century ago, but I only just discovered it existed because of my research on nebulas and other celestial bodies to find a title for this painting. Upon viewing the nebula, I was shocked to discover the colors are very similar. It may appear that I got the inspiration from the nebula, but that is not the case at all. It was completely unintentional. The nebula did, however, inspire the title.
When I painted the background I was not intending on using it as the beginnings to a horse painting. Initially, I wanted it to be more realistic, but as I got on with the painting, it became more and more celestial looking. So, that is why I went online to research constellations for ideas on an appropriate title.
The original is watercolor over acrylic on 9 x 12 canvas board. I did the acrylic background long before adding watercolor. It was a 'let's see what happens if I add watercolor over the top' moment. Not expecting that it would be more than a practice piece.
I recommend black sides or continuous image for canvas prints.
This also looks fabulous as a metal print.
