Description
These whimsical, glass Chihuly flowers are planted Southwest of the Seattle Space Needle in a small, crooked garden with a sensor that activates fun sounds when you walk under them; which adds to their whimsy.
Nearby, on the Northwest side of the Space Needle, is a quant, rectangular restaurant - Collections Caf that holds Dale Chihuly's wonderful collectables neatly displayed on shelves, on the ceiling, in glass display cases, and in the tables. The wall of windows give you a view out to the busy and entertaining passerbys. All of which creates a wonderful atmosphere to dine in. I found the food that was served and the wait staff to be wonderful although the restaurant is a little on the expensive side.
A little about Seattle:
Who says it rains all year in Seattle? Not so.
It isn't hot and sunny all year long like a dessert like Arizona and Texas, it isn't below zero in the winter and 90 percent humidity in the summer like it is in the Midwest, and it doesn't rain all year like it does in a rain forest. That does happen in Washington, but not in Seattle. We have definite seasons here; which I love. It is actually one of the most temperate places to live in the U.S. The five senses are made alive with the sights, sounds, smells, and you can feel it in the air when the seasons change. When it is about to rain, you can smell it in the air and it smells good.
January is when we hope for snow and usually get it. It lasts long enough to enjoy it and play in it. Never so long that as to get sick of it.
February is usually mostly sunny and spring plants start to bloom. It begins to feel like spring is in the air. Yes, it does rain off and on until July 4th. How else can we say April showers, May flowers? The air and the longer days lend to a spring is here and summer is coming feel.
June is definitely summer with warm temperatures and occasional rain. The rain here is usually light. Not many people in this area own an umbrella because the rain is not that heavy soak-you-to-your-bones type of rain. People here walk in it, jog in it and ride their bikes in it.
After the 4th of July the weather is rainless and the temperature is amazing until October 31st. It almost always rains on Halloween and then it is back to a mix of sunny and rainy days, cooler albeit, and a fabulous Indian Summer for a few more weeks. A wind storm or two comes to shed the trees of their fall color and remind them that winter is here. Once it snowed on Thanksgiving and sometimes it snows in December.
The summer temperature is mostly 75 degrees with one or two weeks in the 90's to 100's. This photo was taken on one of those perfect 75 degree days.
