Preliminary sketch I drew for the painting, Reciprocity.
Horses are funny to watch when they do this. They rub each other in exactly the same places. If one moves to another spot, the other will mirror what the one is doing. Sometimes nibbling and sometimes using their upper lip to massage the horse. If you rub a horse in an itchy spot and place your hand under their mouth, it will move its upper lip back and forth across your hand as if to massage it. Be careful because sometimes the horse will nip.
