Description
A commissioned painting of a Ruby-Throated Hummingbird resting on a Red Hot Poker flower.
The painting made me think of the Bible verse, Be still and know that I am God. Hummingbirds are usually beating their wings a million miles a minute. Eating on the fly and drinking on the fly. This one is sitting.
They do seem to only stop beating their wings and sit still when they feel safe and trust. I have a water feature that is in a bend of my house. Protection on two sides. I did not build it for birds, but birds come including hummers. Their are parts in the rocks that pool water the the hummers like. They sit still and drink from the water. The Bible verse, Be still and know that I am God is, to me, a description of just that. He is a place of peace and rest. We can stop beating our wings and safely drink from his waters knowing that He is in full control.
This is the full verse: Psalm 46:10 - He says, "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."
This verse fits even better: Exodus 14:14 - The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.
