I titled this piece Men At Work because what many see as a tropical vacation spot, the locals see as a place of work. The contrast of these fishermen pulling a boat up onto a beautiful and serene beach intrigued me and so I chose to give this piece brightness and color to further enhance the contrast.
This painting was a transitional painting for me; an Ah-ha moment because it was the first time that I painted something with only three primary colors and also chose, for the first time, to paint with only transparent colors.
A group of painters I painted with on a weekly basis decided to paint the same subject just to see what everyone would come up with. One of the painters had a photo from her Mexico trip. It was mostly brown and dull in color and there wasn't any houses or trees in the background, but the subject was good. There was about eight of us painting this image.
